Liebster Award!

liebster
Annie from The Enantiomer Project nominated me for a Liebster! Thanks, Annie! I’m still not 100% on the “rules“, so forgive me if I muck up.
1.  Why/how did you choose the name of your blog?
I actually wrote a post about this recently. When I first started blogging, I went with Writersblock since I’d been using the name since I was very young. It was more of a self-deprecating joke than anything else. I said for a long time that my hobbies were things that I did to distract me from writing the next great American novel. Over the last few years, I’ve been working on having a more positive outlook and needed a new name to match. The Geeky Seamstress was more encompassing of what I wanted the blog to be–a place where a geeky gal shared her passions and creations.
2.  What fashion icon do you take inspiration from?
Hmm… I don’t have a particular fashion icon. In the realm of TV, I love Joan Holloway’s office looks on Mad Men. The dresses she wears are very sleek and sexy with lots of bold colors. I also love Audrey Hepburn’s, Sofia Copella’s, and Emma Watson’s styles.
3.  What is the most difficult fabric you have worked with?
As of this posting, chiffon. My best friend is getting married today and I made a leaving dress for her from scraps of her wedding dress (spoiler: it’s Cambie #6. I need a Cambie intervention). Chiffon is a slippery, fray-happy devil. Pair it with charmeuse and it’s like trying to sew jello.
4.  What is your proudest sewing moment?
Probably when I went to Dallas Fan Days last year in my Star Wars Cambie and Anthony Daniels (the actor who plays C-3P0) complimented my dress. That was definitely the moment when I felt like I was growing as a seamstress and could actually make things that didn’t suck.
5.  What is your least favorite thing about sewing?
Being hard on my work. I get really critical of my mistakes and have a bad tendency of trying to finish projects while I’m tired or just not mentally there. I’m getting better about recognizing when I need to stop and walk away from a project. 99% of the time, I’ll come back refreshed and able to fix any errors I made or roll with a mistake.

Here are my five picks:

And here are my five questions:

  1. Stealing this one from Annie: Why/how did you choose the name of your blog?
  2. What is your go-to stress release?
  3. What inspires you?
  4. What is your all-time favorite TV show?
  5. You’re on a deserted island. What do you HAVE to have with you?

P.S. I promise I’m going to post more sewing things soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to post 1 or 2 of my projects from the end of March over the weekend. Then it’s back to cosplay prep! So many summer cons to prepare for…

P.P.S. Would you guys be interested in seeing more WIP posts?

    1. Haha, it was pretty great! His room was empty when we got there (people were prepping for some of the evening events), so we got to hang out and chat for a while. He’s a very interesting guy.
