I’ve been quiet on the blog front because I’ve been busy prepping for Austin Comic Con next weekend! As of right now, I’m only planning to attend on Saturday, but I’ve also put my name out there for a social media volunteer. We’ll see what happens.
I had an unexpected shift change at work, so I got Friday off and spent the day sewing. Best result: Belle is officially done. I’m going to run the dress and blouse through the wash tomorrow to clear up my tailor’s chalk, but that’s about it. I styled a wig on Friday that I really wasn’t happy with. The back turned out ok, but the bangs were really ugly. Today, I styled my Jasmine from Arda using a mixture of Arda’s gravity-defying bangs tutorial (though slightly modified) and this Belle tutorial. Add the bow, curl the ends, and I’m much happier with it.
I made some progress on a few other projects as well. All-Con is having a PJ party, and I’m planning to make a pair of Fluttershy-themed Tofino pants (and possibly a cowl-neck Renfrew top). Sewaholic patterns are designed for pear-shaped women and I’m more of a modest hour-glass shape, so I decided to make a wearable muslin from Belle scraps. They’re a bit loose, so I’ll probably make the next size smaller in both the waist and the legs when I make the real thing. Still, they make a great pair of sewing/lounging shorts. I wore them for most of the weekend. It was a really quick project, since I skipped the piping and the belt. Maybe 2 hours? I’ll write a fuller review of the pattern sometime this week.
I finally got around to cutting the pieces for a Marvel comic-themed Macaron. I’m hoping to get this one done by Saturday so I can wear it to the con after-party on 6th St. Fingers crossed!
Anyone else get any fun projects done this weekend?
