Why this costume: Morena Baccarin. I love me some Firefly, guys. When I found out she was going to be a guest, I knew I wanted to go as Inara. The problem was that I didn’t know which dress to pick. I opted to go with the peach dress she wears in the pilot after finding a some satin on sale.
How I made this costume: Heavily modified Simplicity pattern. Unfortunately, I don’t recall which one it was. I’ll clear out my pattern stash and post it here when I do. Basically, I found a dress with a neckline that worked and went crazy from there (with the help of my lovely stepmom).
The shawl is my favorite part of this costume. I found a lovely oriental fabric that I turned into a shawl. Turned out to be a good decision since it was freezing! I found a pair of pretty gold heels, but I really should have worn flats. They were insanely uncomfortable. I opted not to wear a wig and curled my own hair.
Thoughts on this costume: For the time I allowed and the effort I put in, I thought this costume turned out okay. Not my best, but certainly not my worst. If I had a chance to re-do this, I’d go with the red and gold dress from the train robbery episode. No in-person pictures, unfortunately, so here’s the costume on my dress form.
