Hey guys! I’m a bit behind on this, but I just wanted to do a quick wrap-up of my recent trek to the SciFi Expo. I went both days this year, Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to any of the panels! The one I really wanted to attend was Karl Urban’s, but Saturday’s craziness prevented me from making it and I was too late on Sunday 😦
On the plus side, I got a chance to wander the dealer’s room quite a bit both days and ran into several great cosplayers. I included a few of them here. The rest are on my Facebook page.
As I mentioned in my Rogue construction notes, I also had a chance to shoot with two photographers: Aperture Ashley and Hell or High Water Photography. It was such an exciting experience and I can’t wait to show you guys the pictures!
One of the things I like about SciFi Expo and Fan Days is that they’re both a lot smaller than Dallas Comic Con. For the most part, it’s a really chill way to kick off or wrap up con season. That being said, I’m super stoked for Dallas Comic Con this year, partly because it’s moving to the Dallas Convention Center (I can pretty much walk there), and partly because of the lineup!
One of the things I love about attending cons is the chance to meet new people and make new friends. I’m a very shy person, and I often struggle with how to just strike up a conversation with new people. Cosplay is a great way around that for me. It gives you an instant bond with someone you might not otherwise get to know.
Overall, it was a fun time, even if I did just wander around being a goof. I’m in major prep mode for AllCon, which is in a month! I’m attempting to wrap up Korra and two new costumes, as well as help a friend with a few pieces for her costumes. Wish me luck!
